TRT wins local poll

A Thai Rak Thai candidate still won with a small margin after yesterday's vote recount for the municipal councillor election held in Bangkok's Bung Kum District on July 23.

The recount showed Thanakrit Pukraksa receiving 14,411 votes, just 64 more than Democrat candidate Man Charoenwal, who was followed by Chat Thai candidate Sirichok Siriwannapa with 8,907 votes.

The second count showed 40,805 ballot papers, with 439 invalid and 2,688 no votes, different from the vote count on July 23 that showed 420 invalid and 2,734 no votes.

The vote count was interrupted after Man protested the different figures. Thanakrit proposed that the Bangkok Election Commission (EC) make a decision on whether to continue. EC officials gave the nod to finish the recount.

The EC had earlier decided to have a vote count after a small margin of victory.
