'Senators' to watch govt

Fifty-eight senators-elect yesterday launched their group, "Out-of-Parliament Senators for Democracy," to scrutinise the role of the Surayud government and the National Legislative Assembly's state policies.
They will also push for political reform and the lifting of martial law. The group comprising Kwansuang Atibodhi, Manvipa Indradat, Paiboon Sumsiripong, Pramuan Aimpia and Siriwat Kraisin, elected to the Senate on April 19, but did not start duties due to the military coup. Kwansuang said the group would scrutinise the strengths and weaknesses of the government's policies, to be declared next Friday , with the aid of experts in various fields. Siriwat said 58 of the 180 senators-elect who won the election on April 19 still wanted to do their job, so they would monitor the work of the government and the NLA.
