Meechai should resign from National Assembly : Pratin
A former Senator called on Meechai Ruchuphan, tipped to be president of National Assembly, to resign from the legislative body because he had allegedly committed irregularities when he was a senate speaker.
Pol Gen Pratin Santiprapob alleged Meechai of acting beyond his mandate when he was serving as the Senate Speaker in 2000. Pratin said Meechai had submitted for a royal endorsement a list of Auditor General Board members on March 31, 2000. Meechai signed the appointment of the Board on April 14 although his term as the Senate Speaker ended March 21. "How can Mr Meechai submitted the list for the royal endorsement and appointed the board given the fact that his term had officially ended," Pratin said. "He should resign from the Assembly." Meechai is one among two candidates who were tipped to be president of the National Assembly that is due to meet Friday to select the president. Another candidate is Prasong Soonsiri, a former secretary general of National Security Council. "I want to point out that why Khun Meechai who is a legal expert, did not know that he violated the laws and caused damage to the country," said Pratin, a former police chief.
