Activists defy ban on rallies

Members of the 19 September Network Against Coup d'Etat and Student Activity Information Resource groups have called on opponents of the coup to wear black and attend a talk at 5pm today in front of the Army headquarters on Rajdamnoen Nok Road.

"We ... want to tell the military junta that political assembly is a fundamental right," said Student Activity Information Resource leader Chotisak On-soong.

The group did not accept any order from the Council for National Security (CNS) because the coup was illegal, he said.

Today's activity is the fifth event in the groups' civil disobedience campaign against the council. The website 19sep.net was recently reopened after being shut down last week.
