Four new routes for Chiang Mai

Four main routes are planned for the city's new mass-transit system and will be introduced at a second public hearing on September 25 at 9am at the Lotus Pang Suan Kaew Hotel.

The routes were chosen by a working group based in the Engineering Service Centre and led by Chiang Mai University's Rangsan Udomsri, who headed the study into the mass-transit plan.

The hearing will publicise the types of the transit systems as well as the routes, and the public will be urged to give their opinions on the location of bus stations and stops, as well as other relevant topics.

The four systems being considered for the city are light-rail, mono-rail, tram and rapid bus; however, it was concluded at the first public hearing that a ground-level transit system was more appropriate than underground or elevated train systems.

A rapid bus system was considered by the working group as the most appropriate among the four types as more passengers can be accommodated.
