Thamarak seeks truce

Caretaker Defence Minister Thamarak Isarangura yesterday extended an olive branch to top military officers in an effort to end the row over the proposed military reshuffle.

Thamarak said he was willing to forgive five senior military officers and withhold their punishment if they apologised for questioning him about political meddling. "I am ready to meet and work out a settlement on the matter," Thamarak said.

The five officers, led by Admiral Bannawit Kengrien, the deputy permanent secretary for defence, criticised Thamarak for bowing to political pressure in the reshuffle.
