[NATIONAL GAMES] Bangkok's swimmers smashed three national records yesterday to help their team extend their lead in the medal standings at the National Games in Suphan Buri.
Apart from breaking three records, Bangkok swimmers also won six of the seven gold medals contested in the pool. Only Samut Songkhram's Jintawan Kladprasert stopped Bangkok from making a clean sweep in the swimming by winning the gold medal in the women's 400m freestyle. Bangkok's Arvuth Chinnapasaen set a record of 23.26 seconds in the 50m freestyle, while Radomyos Martyua also entered the record books by swimming 2:07.98secs in the men's 200m individual medley. Bangkok's third record breaker was Pannika Prachkosin, who clocked a time of 27.01secs in the women's 50m freestyle. The final day of the track and field competition saw nine gold medals contested and Nakhon Ratchasima won two, Suphan Buri had two, while Bangkok, Trang, Khon Kaen, Pathum Thani and Nakhon Phanam shared one gold apiece. The Bangkok team had mixed fortunes in table tennis, with their women's team beating Chiang Mai to win the gold and their men's team going down to Chon Buri. Chon Buri, Nakhon Ratchasima and Suphan Buri won three gold each in weightlifting yesterday. In the rowing competition, Chiang Mai won four of the six gold medals at stake, thanks largely to the superb form of Piyaphan Phaopat and Jaemsai Chanklang. Samut Prakarn and Suphan Buri shared one gold each. Forty-nine gold medals are at stake today.
