Ex-staff sought in shop slayings

Police are seeking two former employees of a Bangkok gold shop where three people were killed and Bt5 million worth of gold was stolen on Saturday.

The former employees - a Thai woman and a Laotian woman - are wanted for questioning in connection with the killings and robbery, a police source said.

"We have yet to establish whether the robbers and the murderers work or had worked at the gold shop. We are pursuing all leads," Metropolitan Police Division 6 commander Maj-General Wanich Suraponchai said yesterday.

Metropolitan Police commissioner Lt-General Wiroj Chantarangsi said the investigation was paying extra attention to former and current staff of the Kim Jia Hang gold shop in Bangkok's Samphanthawong district.

Besides the three women killed, the shop has two other employees who were not present during the robbery. The shop's security camera was not activated on Saturday because the shop was closed.

The source said the Lao ex-employee was fired four months ago for allegedly stealing gold, and other employees suspected her involvement in Saturday's crime. Police were tracing their mobile-phone signals.
