Air Force graft claim

The Democrat Party said it had received complaints about alleged corruption in the Air Force over the development of the air-defence system RTAD II in Kanchanaburi province.

Alongkorn Pollabutr, chair of the party's graft scrutiny committee, claimed there was suspicion over equipment purchases and the budget, which is in place from this year to 2009.

He said there were irregularities in the bidding process, which had favoured a firm from Singapore.

"This is about national security," he warned, urging Defence Minister Thamarak Isarangura to investigate.
