Thailand are ready

[TAEKWONDO] Though facing a tough task, the Thai taekwondo team is ready to meet the challenge at the Korea Open International Taekwondo Championships in, which start today.
Twenty Thai fighters along with their Korean head coach Choe Young-suk arrived in Seoul on Monday. Competitors from more than 33 countries are expected to take part in the competition including fighters from China, Taiwan, Iran and South Korea. However, the Thai squad is mainly comprised of upcoming fighters since most of the national squad are being held back in preparation for next week's Bangkok WTF World Cup Taekwondo Team Championships from September 14-18. "This is very challenging for our team. Most of them don't have much overseas experience. However, I'm pretty sure they will perform their best," coach Choe Young-suk said. The Thai squad will compete in nine categories and include Park Wattanaporn in the men's lightweight and Watcharaporn Kongnoi in the women's middleweight division, while national squad members in the party are led by Athens 2004 bronze medallist Yaowapa Boorapolchai and World University Games gold medallist Patiwat Thongsalub.
