Italian mushrooms, Korean pizza and Aussie treats

Exotic Aussie bites: Steak, fish fillet or seafood - the choices seem a bit limited if what you want is something exotic and exciting. No worries, chef Dag Demarkow at Swissotel's ISO restaurant is cooking up a storm in a special promotion that features authentic dishes from the land Down Under.
A peek at the menu reveals Queensland rabbit and mushroom pie, kangaroo with sweet potato cinnamon mash, bok choy and bush tomato chutney, Victorian rack of lamb with cajun and macadamia crust on couscous among others. After a decade spent cooking for prestigious names like Swissotel, Merbein Restaurant and The Red Café, Demarkow is now the executive chef of award-winning Trentham Estate Winery, Australia. The promotion is being held from today until Friday at ISO, Swissotel Nai Lert Park, Bangkok. The prices for the set dinner start at Bt850. Call (02) 253 0123, extension 8056.
Tuscan discoveries The people at Angelini Italian Restaurant and Bar at the Shangri-La Hotel are matching fine Italian Carpineto wines with dishes in a one-night-only dinner dubbed Grandi Vini di Toscana. Carpineto wines are known the world over for their unique intensity, flavour and consistency of the vintages. Representative for the wineries, Antonio Zaccheo Jr, will be on hand for this journey through classic red Tuscan wines like Russo di Montepulciano, Chianti Classico DOCG and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. These will be complemented by Italian cuisine, especially prepared by resident chef Nicola Coccia. Call (02) 236 9952 or 236 7777, extension 6205.
Wild Italian mushrooms With the onset of the wild mushroom season in late August, the Italian passion for hunting is unleashed. Among the different species, Porcini and Chanterelle are considered precious gifts of nature. Throughout September, executive chef Mario Caramella of Hyatt Regency Hua Hin is importing a variety of these fungi to give diners at Fig Restaurant a taste of wild Italy. A sample of the menu includes pumpkin and chanterelle mushroom soup, risotto with porcini mushrooms and saffron, rock lobster with assorted mushrooms and potato ragout, among other delights. Call (032) 521 234 for a reservation.
Mighty meaty pizza Pizza Hut has launched the Mighty Korean Bulkoki Meat Pizza, the latest addition to their topping-heavy line of Mighty Meat feasts. After the successful square pizza with four toppings and thin crust pizza with six toppings, Pizza Hut has come up with a concoction of Bulkoki pork marinated with Korean BBQ sauce, smoked chicken and bacon bits, seasoned with spicy soya sauce. The Mighty Korean Bulkoki Meat Pizza is available from now until September 26. Get high on a new menu Since its opening in 2002, Vertigo, the rooftop restaurant at the Banyan Tree, Bangkok, has been wowing diners with fine food and stunning views. However, the chef apparently wasn't satisfied with the host of great signature dishes on offer, and launched a new a la-carte menu this month. For your next visit, recommendations include rice-crusted bay scallops with coriander tomato salsa, balsamic vinegar and caramelised lime; medallion of spiced duck and foie gras with endive marmalade, apple, cinnamon and orange sauce; and grilled Maine lobster with white wine sauce, truffle and potato ravioli and kale. Call (02) 679 1200.
