Thammasat ease into final berth

[BASKETBALL] Thammasat University eased into the final of the Bt140,000 Nation-Siam University League Tournament after clinching back to back victories against Rattana Bundit University with a 81-55 triumph in the best-of-three semi-finals yesterday.
Thammasat had beaten Rattana Bundit 65-54 in their first meeting on Friday. In the second encounter, hosts Rattana Bundit failed to stem Thammasat's fast breaks allowing the visitors to take a 16-11 lead at the end of the first period. During the second quarter, Rattana Bundit tightened their defence and cut the gap to 19-22, which forced Thammasat to call for a first time-out. Thammasat then recovered their composure firing a series of three pointers and restricting their hosts to just two points to lead 36-21 by half-time. Twins Darongpan and Daranpong Apiromwilaichai's deft play in what was an attacking game helped Thammasat pull ahead further to 61-32 by the end of the third quarter. With such a big lead, Thammasat took their foot off the gas in the last period fielding their reserves, while Rattana Bundit struggled to make their shots count despite having more opportunities. In the other semi-final match, Dhurakij Pundit University trounced Srinakarinwirot University 111-74, avenging their 88-80 loss on Friday. They will play their deciding match today with the winners facing Thammasat in the final tomorrow. Both matches will take place at the centre ground at Siam University.
