The Democrat Party has learned that mystery billboards mistakenly thought to belong to the party are in fact part of a marketing strategy by a credit-card company, party spokesman Ong-art Klampaiboon said yesterday.
The billboards feature the phrase "Under 'rabob abhisit', the people will rule". Abhisit means "privilege", and is also the first name of party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva. Rabob means "regime" or "pattern". The party has received a written explanation from the company that launched the advertising campaign for its "Abhisit Card" product, Ong-art said. He said the company used a similar shade of blue to the party's and set up a fictional character named "Abhisit Charoenrungruang", whose signature is similar to that of the Democrat leader's. Abhisit's name was used as a means of attracting people's attention before revealing the product, he said. The letter said the company had no political motivation for the ad, which will run until September 8, Ong-art said. The billboards have appeared at many busy areas of the city including the Lam Salee flyover and Lak Si junction.
