SU too good for Rattana Bundit

[BASKETBALL] Srinakarinwirot University rallied past Rattana Bundit University 91-83 to top Group B after a preliminary match in the Bt300,000 The Nation-Siam University League Tournament yesterday.

With the advantage of home fans, hosts Rattana Bundit controlled the game from the outset to end the first period 25-17. Then things turned around as Srinakarinwirot came alive and outpaced the hosts from the middle of the second quarter to lead 39-37 by half-time.

In the third quarter, both sides played aggressively and fouls were called several times. The Srinakarinwirot side lost Prachya Kruatiwa to injury and the up-and-coming point guard was replaced with Prawit Wichudarat.

The change slowed the visitors' game and allowed the Rattana Bundit team to tie the score at 55-55, and they never looked back. The Srinakarinwirot side's Prachya scored 20 points to be top scorer.

Srinakarinwirot University now have four wins against one loss, while Rattana Bundit University have three wins against two losses.

In another Group B match, both Bangkok University and Siam University had one win against three losses. This was their first meeting with both battling for a slim chance of booking a semi-final berth.

Nopporn Saengthong sank 20 points to lead Siam University past Bangkok University 78-71 in a see-sawing match.

In Group A clash, hot favourites Thammasat University, which have already book a place in the semi-finals, fielded reserves to gain experience, while the winless King Mongkut's Institute of Technology University North Bangkok threw everything they had into the match.

Thammasat captured their second straight win over King Mongkut's Institute of Technology University North Bangkok 74-56.
