NEW PLACE
Get a sense of pampering at Zense

The very thought of being pummelled by a masseuse in exotic, expensive-looking surroundings may be intimidating for some, but model Varaluck "Joy" Vanichkul has an alternative. Her new spa, Zense of Joy, is a cosy little getaway where people can escape and get pampered in one of the nine small rooms.
"Zense of Joy customers are people who dress in jeans and T-shirts. They can be teenagers or young adults who want the spa experience," says Varaluck, who started modelling at the age of 16. The services on offer, named by Varaluck herself, have fun titles like "Cell-U-Later", a cellulite-easing marine scrub and seaweed mask; the "Cleopatra Treatment", a pampering wrap with milk and honey after sea salt exfoliation; and a "Joy N'One" body massage. There's even an hour-long "ear-candling" service on offer which removes excess wax and debris for Bt1,800. Varaluck's favourite is the Body Whitening treatment, which she says isn't really meant to make the complexion fairer but to brighten it. The spa also offers facials, slimming treatment, body scrub, manicure and Brazilian wax. Treatments cost between Bt600 and Bt3,500. The model didn't go for the Thai herbal spa business, because she says, "a lot of people have done that. I just want to offer things that appeal to younger people." Varaluck has also concocted her own beauty potions and offers them in cute packages. Her newest products are the honey-scented Feeling Good Body Butter, the Vitamin A & E Beads and the Tropical Body Scrub, which smells of tangerines. The products cost Bt450 and up. There's a possibility that Zense of Joy products will eventually hit the shelves at department stores, but for now it is only available at the spa. The model also promises to offer more services in the future, though she won't be making too many technological additions as that could push the prices up. There's only one Zense of Joy spa at the moment, but she plans to open more branches in the future. While Zense of Joy is connected with California Fitness, giving people the option of relaxing after a strenuous workout, Varaluck says that some people just prefer being pampered. "When I don't know what to do while my boyfriend's in the gym, I just go to a spa," she says. So if you are not into exercising, venture over to Zense of Joy for a relaxing hour or a mid-afternoon nap.
Zense of Joy is located in the basement of Jasmine City building on Sukhumvit Soi 23 and is open from 10am to 11pm daily.
