Mahachon wants to see easier censuring of the prime minister

The Mahachon Party yesterday announced its election policies and held a caucus to select its new executive board.
Sanan Kachornprasart continues as party leader, Assawin Wipusiri takes the secretary-general post and Siriwat Kachornprasart becomes deputy secretary-general. Among the party executive members is 21-year-old Plaipol Sorasuchart, who has just completed a bachelor's degree and is the son of party deputy leader Akapol Sorasuchart. The party said it would push for amendments to the Constitution within 18 months. It would change Article 185, allowing one fifth of MPs to censure the PM, and would amend articles 138 and 257 to increase penalties for corrupt officials and indefinitely extend the statute of limitation for the impounding of politicians' assets. The party said if it came to power it would scrap the Bt30 health scheme and replace it with free medical care for the disadvantaged. The party would push for economic reform, adhering to a self-sufficiency principle, and would restructure the tax system to help relieve the burden of the poor.
