Unstable or just cunning?

Psychologists and politicians yesterday debated whether the caretaker prime minister is "mentally unstable or simply cunning".
Dr Kasem Tantiplacheewa of Somdej Chao Phraya Hospital argued that Thaksin was mentally unstable and that it was not just personal - but a national problem.Kasem said the media had analysed Thaksin's personality and also believed the PM had lost his mind and has a multiple personality disorder (MPD). "A person with MPD cannot remember himself. The country's leader does not realise what he is doing. He is swayed to do things like riding an elephant - and wearing a black wristband. A person with this symptom needs to hear the cheers of supporters to get his confidence up," he said. Caretaker Senator Dr Nirun Phitakwatchara said he did not believe Thaksin was mentally unsound as he would be unable to handle the responsibility of national problems - but he did believe Thaksin was crafty and had abused his power. "The caretaker prime minister is violating the law and abuses his power. Thai society is learning how a smart country leader can cheat," he said. The debate was organised at Chulalongkorn University. It also discussed a Thai-language book entitled "They allow sick people to run the country", that focused on national leaders who were mentally unstable. The Nation
