Thaksin tight-lipped over his future

Thai Rak Thai Party leader Thaksin Shinawatra has yet to reply to the question of whether he will lead the next government, his party secretary-general Suriya Jungrungreangkit said yesterday.
"Many party members have asked him directly but Thaksin has not said anything about his future," Suriya said. He said the majority of party members want the prime minister to form the new government for the sake of continuity. "The ruling party is not concerned about its survival but is thinking what is best for the country and that Thaksin has to revitalise the economy under his leadership," he said. Like everyone else, all party members were keen to hear Thaksin's decision on the matter, he said. He ruled out speculation that Thaksin might step down to pave the way for his deputy Somkid Jatusripitak to take the government helm, saying the ruling party had opted for its leader to lead it to election victory. He said Somkid would run for re-election as a party-list candidate.
