More dead in South

Three explosions and several shootings yesterday and late on Wednesday left two people dead and 20 wounded in the South.
A bomb hidden in a motorbike went off in front of a gold shop in Rangae district of Narathiwat at 7.30am, wounding seven passers-by and five soldiers, two of whom were in a critical condition.Officials said the scene was next to the Tanyong Mas market. Witnesses saw two teenagers park the motorbike in front of the gold shop about 6am. Another blast an hour later in a roadside food stall opposite the Yala Provincial Hospital wounded five bystanders and two police officers, one of whom is in severe condition. Police said the bomb was hidden under the stall and exploded when the two policemen were eating breakfast. The force destroyed the whole food stall, four motorbikes and a sedan parked nearby. Police suspect at least two Muslim insurgents were involved. Later in Narathiwat's Sungai Padi district, a roadside bomb went off as six officials were trying to clear up a local street covered with road spikes. No one was wounded In Pattani, a municipal employee and a state informant were shot dead in two separate attacks. Boonchoo Longprom, 47, an employee of Taluban Tambon Administration Organisation, was shot four times while riding his motorbike to work in Sai Buri.
