Rafting tragedy in North

A Canadian woman drowned yesterday after falling off a white-water raft into rapids in northern Thailand, police said.

The woman, 26-year-old Susan Van Amerom, was rafting on the Pai River with three other foreign tourists in Mae Hong Son.

Capt Wachara Jaidee said Van Amerom fell off the rubber raft at the Kaeng Hin Mong rapids near the provincial capital Mae Hong Son.

Wachara told Associated Press the young woman's body was found in the river later yester-

day. He did not reveal her home town.
