Chuwit dismisses Abhisit's 'soap opera'

Outspoken Chat Thai deputy leader Chuwit Kamolvisit yesterday attacked the campaign of Democrat leader Abhisit Vejjajiva, saying it looked like a soap opera.
Chuwit sharply criticised the Democrats over their stand on women's rights and the increased cost of living, saying he did not know what Abhisit was going to do when the Constitution clearly specified that both men and women had equal rights. And when it came to increasing the minimum wage, that would be decided by a tripartite committee of government, employer and employee representatives, he said. "If employers agree and then fire some of their workers, that would end up damaging the economy, so [the Democrats] should consider this possibility," he said. As far as the next election was concerned, snow would fall in Thailand before the Democrats would be in government, he said. Even though they would win seats in Bangkok and the South, they could not reach 150 MPs, while Chat Thai should get at least the same number as in the last election. "If we want to win, at some stage we might have to send someone to hold-up Khun Thaksin [Shinawatra] and force him to step down. But I don't believe he will," Chuwit said. He said he would present his campaign to Chat Thai at a party meeting today. The campaign would cover Bangkok, he said. "We will maintain some government policies which are beneficial and remove those policies that have become a scandal," he said. Further, he would erect banners with the words "We know … what you are doing" to "out" politicians cheating on the public, he said.
