Shirt 'scam' shocks Chuwit

Outspoken Chat Thai Party deputy leader Chuwit Kamolvisit claims blue T-shirts commemorating Her Majesty the Queen's birthday have been handed out by former Thai Rak Thai MPs in violation of election law.
He said the government had used the Interior Ministry budget to buy T-shirts and send them to provincial governors in order to distribute to officials and the public. But he claimed some governors had given 1,000 T-shirts to former MPs from the ruling party instead.
"They [former MPs] have handed out T-shirts to people in order to advance vote-buying," Chuwit said yesterday. "If we are the Election Commission, this performance violates the law definitely."
He said it was not a problem if the ministry distributed the T-shirts via governors, sheriffs and district officials. However, one former Thai Rak Thai MP dismissed Chuwit's accusation.
"The charge is not true. I have to ask my close aides to buy a shirt. How can I give them out to people?" said former Bangkok MP Suwat Wannasirikul.
He believed politicians would not undertake such an action because it would be against election law.
