IN BRIEF
US offers shrimp deal to avoid WTO

The US has said it will revise down or waive the continuous bond (C-bond) on Thai frozen shrimp if the Thai government agrees to withdraw its complaint of unfair trade practice with the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

Apiradi Tantraporn, director-general of the Trade Negotiations Department, said yesterday that Thailand was still insisting the WTO consider the complaint.

In the latest negotiations, the US insisted on carrying on with its C-bond. But it has offered to revise the measure by allowing importers to submit financial documents to the US Commerce Department. The US also bargained to reduce the C-bond guarantee or waive it if Thailand withdrew its WTO case.
