Chat Thai won't link with TRT: Somsak

The Chat Thai Party yesterday rejected a reported statement by Thai Rak Thai Party deputy leader Sudarat Keyuraphan that the two parties had agreed not to compete against each other in the next election.

Somsak Prissanananthakul, Chat Thai deputy leader, said it was not true that the two parties had reached such an arrangement. He said no one had ever approached party leader Banharn Silapa-archa, deputy leader Nikorn Chamnong, secretary-general Prapat Photasuthon or himself about such a plan.

Somsak said no such proposal had ever been raised at a Chat Thai Party meeting.

"It is not true to say the party agreed to this plan. Chat Thai would never aim to destroy democracy. Political collusion is a conspiracy to stop the electorate from voting decent MPs into the House. It is an obstruction of democracy. Chat Thai would never do that," he said.

Chat Thai had not contacted Sudarat to ask her about her statement but would wait until Banharn returned from the United States, he said.
