Young scholars win five golds in competitions in Argentina, Slovenia, Singapore
Thai secondary school students have won five gold medals over the past week at international academic Olympics for biology, maths and physics. Three of the five golds were won at the Biology Olympics, which finishes today in Argentina. One of the gold-medallists - Chonti Chantarachotchatchaval, from Triam Udom Suksa School - also recorded the world's top marks for this Olympiad, said Surin Pongsupasamit, the director of the Institute for the Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology. The other two gold medal winners in Argentina were Sikharin Upala and Nopparat Varnnarong, both from Mahidol Wittayanusorn School, while a silver medal went to Kanokwan Kulalert from Triam Udom Suksa School. Meanwhile, Phumpong Wattanaprakornkul from Triam Udom Suksa School, and Ronnachai Charoensri from Suankularb Wittayalai School, each won gold at the maths and physics Olympics in Slovenia and Singapore respectively. Silver medals in the Maths Olympics went to Panupong Pasuphat and Theeravut Vannapahun from Triam Udom Suksa School, and Theeradej Kittipatsorn from Chulalongkorn Demonstration School. Kasidit Toprasertpong, from Chulalongkorn Demonstration School, Chonpatin Paiboonpalayoi, from Triam Udom Suksa School, Sorravit Seangtaveesin, from Saint Gabriel's College and Amnuey Polsukcharoen, from Mahidol Wittayanusorn School, won silver medals in Singapore. The Maths Olympics finishes tomorrow while the Physics Olympics ends today. The winners and other Thai representatives at the Physics Olympics will return today while those for the Maths Olympics will be back on Wednesday. The Biology Olympics team will return on Friday. A welcoming party will greet the teams on their arrival at Don Muang Airport. Gold medal winners: Chonti Chantarachotchatchaval (biology), Sikharin Upala (biology), Nopparat Varnnarong (biology), Phumpong Wattanaprakornkul (maths) and Ronnachai Charoensri (physics). Bronze medal winners: Tanavit Sae Sue, from Triam Udom Suksa School (maths) and Sarita Boonsupa from Mahidol Wittayanusorn School (maths).
