PM's plotter:no name, no pack drill

Key Thai Rak Thai figures yesterday came out in defence of Thaksin Shinawatra, the embattled caretaker premier, saying their party leader had not named the "charismatic" person who is supposedly trying to topple his regime.
Deputy party leader Pongthep Thepkanjana said that since Thaksin had not identified the person, no one should be troubled by his remark. Thaksin has come under pressure from the media and critics to name the person who he alleged on Thursday was behind the undemocratic plot to get rid of him. Pongthep said the public should not be confused by the premier's statement. Several parties protested because it was understood that the person referred to by Thaksin was Prem Tinsulanonda, president of the Privy Council and a widely respected former premier. Government Spokesman Surapong Suebwonglee said critics should not distort Thaksin's comments because the caretaker premier had not specified anyone.
