Website against human trafficking

Thailand will soon launch an anti-human-trafficking website, said to be the first of its kind, providing global resource information.
The website's contents include news and information on events and activities gathered from all over the world, Veerasak Kowsurat, head of the team developing the ww.stophumantrafficking.com site, said yesterday. It will take tip-offs on suspicious activities. Besides offering public information, it is also open for membership access, he said. This resource will be particularly useful for consular and embassy officers, anti-human-trafficking networks worldwide, social workers, police, detectives and lawyers. Courts can study and compare the characters of certain gangs by using the site's database. "This website will be the world's first using the extra-net system, which allows universal access," Veerasak said. Confidentiality will be ensured by encoding victims' identification and only allowing authorised users to gain limited access to classified information. The project will be forwarded to the Cabinet for approval before the online library is opened by the national committee on human-trafficking suppression. "Human trafficking is an international crime, so to fight it we need cooperation from all sides and all countries concerned," said Vallop Ploytaptim, permanent secretary of the Social Development and Human Security Ministry. This year 74 women and children have been saved from human-trafficking rings bringing them into Thailand. Pakamard Jaichalard The Nation
