Monk sued for remark

The Government Lottery Office filed libel charges yesterday against a monk for a statement suggesting the lottery draw on June 16 may have been rigged.

Phra Lek has left Wat Lat Thipros in Nakhon Sawan's Takhli district following an ultimatum by local authorities and the provincial Buddhism office. He has reportedly moved to Wat Tha Lat in Saraburi.

GLO officials filed the charge with police in Nakhon Sawan following Phra Lek's claim that numbers he predicted prior to the draw were not selected due to the GLO fixing the draw.

Senior monks and police are examining bank accounts linked to Wat Lat Thipros that contain around Bt15 million in donations received by Phra Lek from previous lottery winners.
