Stampede for photos of royalty

Some people have placed orders for thousands of photos featuring His Majesty the King during his diamond jubilee celebrations.
"This is the briskest business I've ever done. Some [customers] clearly plan to resell the photos upcountry," Yupa Sirisawas-sing, who owns the Say You Digital Photo Shop at the Mall 's Ngarmwongwan branch, said yesterday. The official celebrations marking His Majesty's 60th year on the throne have captivated the whole nation and demand is high for photos of His Majesty during the auspicious ceremonies. His Majesty is the world's longest-reigning monarch. Members of royal families from 25 countries gathered in Bangkok earlier this month to pay tribute to His Majesty. Yupa said demand for the photos and for frames was already too huge for her shop to handle. In all, she expected to print more than one million photos of His Majesty and other royals. Her shop charges Bt100 for one 12x18-inch (30x45cm) print. "The most popular photo is the one in which His Majesty is seen waving with Her Majesty Queen Sirikit by his side," Yupa said. The same photo was also the biggest hit at the Royal Household Bureau's Kodak photo lab, which was opened on Monday in the compound of the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. Yesterday, a long line formed in front of the lab even before it opened at 8.30am.
