Paradorn gets a birthday present

[TENNIS] Birthday boy Paradorn Srichaphan of Thailand gave himself a present yesterday by scoring a second round win over Taiwan's Lu Yen-hsun in the £659,000 Stella Artois Grass Court Championships in London.
The world ranked No 35 Thai, who turned 27, was extended to three sets by the 115th-ranked Taiwanese before advancing to round three with a 6-3 5-7 6-4 win. Awaiting him in round three is the second-seeded Andy Roddick, who rallied from a first set defeat to stem the run of Canadian qualifier Frank Dancevic 2-6 6-4 6-3. Paradorn's countryman Danai Udomchoke was scheduled to take on 15th-seeded Dmitry Tursunov of Russia late last night (Bangkok time). Paradorn was quickly into gear, breaking Lu in the second game of the first set which was enough to secure the opener 6-3. But the Taiwanese began to settle down in the second set and stayed neck-and-neck with the Thai until 5-5. Lu held the next game to gain the upper-hand at 6-5 and managed a crucial break in the 12th game to level the match. Paradorn started the decisive set in style, managing an early break for a 3-1 lead. The rest of the set went with serve and the Thai held on to win the final set 6-4. Roddick leads Paradorn 6-1 in their head-to-head series which included a 6-3 6-3 quarter-final win in this tournament two years ago.
