Toddler shot dead

A 14-month old girl died last night after being shot in the head on Friday night. The infant was struck by a bullet outside her home off Chaeng Wattana Road, north of Bangkok.

Warissara Intharit was in a coma for 17 hours after she was admitted to hospital.

Her parents said they and the girl were with other relatives outside their house when she was shot.

Initially they thought two loud bangs they heard were part of a fireworks show marking His Majesty's 60 years reign.

Thung Song Hong police said the bullet could have been fired from a condominium 300 metres east of the girls' house, judging from an initial trajectory report.

Officers were questioning witnesses and security guards at the condominium to find out if occupants in the building had fired shots to celebrate the auspicious occasion.
