Five policemen killed in Yala bomb attack

Narathiwat - Five policemen were killed and three other severely injured in a bomb attack on their way to escort teachers home Thursday afternoon.
The bomb attack happened at 2:30 pm when policemen on two pick-up truck were travelling to pick up teachers of Ban Ruesoh School to escort them home. An unknown number of attackers buried a homemade bomb on a road and detonated it with wire when the police truck approached it. The blast killed the five policemen instantly and severely injured three of them. Pol Col Banlue Chuwet, commander of Ruesoh police station, escaped unhurt as he was riding the second truck. The blast caused a one-metre-deep and 1.5-metre-wide hole. The five policemen, who were killed, were identified as Pol Senior Sgt Maj Athip Kantapong, Pol Lance Corporal Niran Hanon, Pol Sgt Maj Suthep Plubpring, Pol Sgt Limad Madaram, and Pol Lance Corporal Thanit Srinakhon.
