Arrests imminent in MP's murder

The gunmen who killed Thai Rak Thai MP Kobkul Nopamornbor-dee and the mastermind who ordered her assassination last Saturday in Ratchaburi have been identified and will be soon arrested, police spokesman Pol General Ajiravid Subarnbhesaj said yesterday.
Arrest warrants are expected to be approved for two individuals within the next 72 hours, he said. Police chief Kovit Watthan said police could not confirm that the gunmen had earlier carried out assassinations in other western provinces under the jurisdiction of Divisional Police Region 7. "We need to have the gunmen, and will then probe further into the motive for the murder," Kovit added. The police spokesman said three police teams were making good progress in finding evidence and linking all the suspects behind the murder. Meanwhile, Democrat executive Bunmark Sirinaowakul, a former Ratchaburi MP and political rival of Kobkul, dismissed speculation that politics was one of the many motives leading to Kobkul's killing, saying he never even thought about using violence in his political career.
