Thais win 4 medals in China

[WEIGHTLIFTING] Thailand won four medals on the second day of the World Women's Junior Weightlifting Championships in Hangzhou, China, yesterday with the plucky Suda Chaleephay in stunning form with two gold medals.

The Thai girls had already won four medals, including two silvers, on Sunday, and yesterday had two weightlifters in action in the 53-kilogramme division - Suda, a bronze medallist at last year's World Senior Women's Championships in Qatar, and rising star Amnuaiporn Maneewan.

Local favourite Zuo Mengxia won the first gold yesterday after snatching 93kg in her third attempt. Suda, who lifted 92kg, won the silver, while Contreras Yuderqui of the Dominican Republic had to be content with the bronze.

Suda was in awesome form in the clear and jerk, lifting 115kg. Her efforts bore fruit and the 19-year-old from Nakhon Ratchasima won Thailand's first gold. Yuderqui and another Thai, Amnuaiporn Maneewan, won the silver and bronze medals after jerking 111kg and 110kg respectively.
