Senate urged to act on NCCC

The Senate should speed up the nomination process for National Counter Corruption Commission candidates instead of delaying it another month, caretaker Senator Chirmsak Pinthong said yesterday.

"I don't understand caretaker Senate Speaker Suchon Chaleekrua's reasoning behind his decision to stall the nomination," Chirmsak said.

He made the comments after Suchon said he would not convene an extraordinary session to screen the 18 NCCC candidates before celebrations of the 60th anniversary of HM the King's accession to the throne were over. The Senate is empowered to vet and recommend nine NCCC nominees from 18 candidates. Chirmsak said Suchon should immediately call the Senate into session to appoint a selection panel.
