Kantathi's concern

Foreign Minister Kantathi Suphamongkhon yesterday expressed disappointment that the house arrest of Burmese democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi had been extended, saying he had harboured hopes that she would be released.

He said Thailand would continue to work with the international community in demanding freedom for Suu Kyi and democratic reform for Burma.

The Burmese junta's decision might be tabled for discussion during the ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement's coordinating bureau, which kicks off today in Malaysia, he added.
