Atthasit's on cue in Saraburi

[SNOOKER] Local hero Atthasit Mahitthi scored an impressive 4-2 victory over Amnuayporn Chotipong in Saraburi yesterday in the opening round of the SangSom Saraburi Thailand Open.

The third ranking event of the season has a star-studded line-up led by Thai ace Ratchapol Pu-Ob-Orm, who is known in England as James Wattana.

Three foreign players are also taking part in the tournament - 2005 Asian Under-21 champion Moh Keen Ho of Malaysia, former world championship quarter-finalist Mohammed Mustafa Shehab of the United Arab Emirates and Tola Neang, the top Cambodian player who was a semi-finalist at the 2002 Asian Games.

Atthasit, a member of the Thai snooker squad for the 2006 Doha Asian Games, made a good start, but Amnuayporn hit back to take a 2-1 lead.

Atthasit, ranked No 3 in Thailand, regained his composure to register a 4-2 victory and set up a last 16 round clash with No 14-ranked Suchart Sukliam.

In today's matches Ratchapol clashes with veteran Chuchart Trairattanapradit - both are

former world and Asian cham-pions.

Shehab will take on Karnchai Wongjan, who won his second Asian championship in Dubai nine years ago with Shehab watching him from the stands.

Moh Keen Ho meets former world and Asian champion Sakchai Sim-ngam.
