Thai team shine with five gold

[ATHLETICS] The Thai squad showed their superiority over other Asian athletes by winning as many as five gold medals at the National Track and Field Grand Prix in Guangzhou, China, on Sunday.
The Thai athletes returned with their pride and reputations intact after winning seven medals - five of them gold and one silver - from the two-day competition. This great achievement enhances their chances for this year's Asian Games in Doha. Team manager Pol Maj Gen Supanut Ariyamongkol was impressed by the team's remarkable form and is convinced his athletes will make their mark in December's Asian Games. "I'm really satisfied with the five gold we won in China. We [the Athletic Association of Thailand] competed in seven categories and returned with five gold medals. That's an exceptional outcome," said Supanut. "I think our athletes did an excellent job. That's why we are optimistic that our athletes have a good chance in Doha," he added. Watchara Sorndee, a double gold medallist at last year's SEA Games, set a personal best time of 10.38 seconds in the men's 100-metres for the gold medal, while two Chinese athletes were the runners-up. In the women's division, Sangwan Jaksunil clocked the fastest time of 11.81 seconds for the gold. Hurdles queen Wassana Vinatho won gold in 59.27secs.
