Purachai will join my party: Snoh

Former interior minister Purachai Piumsombun has decided to make a return to politics by joining the new Pracharaj Party, its leader Snoh Thienthong said yesterday.

Snoh said Purachai, whose "social order" policy made him a popular politician, wanted to help solve the country's problems.

"He will work with us. To get involved in politics, you need to belong to a party," Snoh said.

Purachai, who also served as a deputy prime minister under Thaksin, has been living in New Zealand with his family.

Snoh said yesterday that besides Purachai, other well-known people plan to join his party, though he declined to reveal their identities.

Purachai was a co-founder of the Thai Rak Thai Party along with Thaksin Shinawatra. He was once viewed as Thaksin's heir apparent but later sank into oblivion among the seven deputy PMs, eventually leaving the fold completely.

Meanwhile, Mahachon Party leader Sanan Kachornprasart said that former Democrat secretary-general Pradit Pattaraprasit had decided to join Mahachon and contest the next poll. However, Pradit, who is no longer a Democrat, dismissed Sanan's claim.
