BMA talk with Siemens on skytrain Monday

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration management will hold a meeting with contractor Siemens on Monday to discuss the final cost of the extension of a skytrain service route from Taksin station on Phra Nakhon side to Taksin Intersection on Thon Buri side.
The German company would need a Bt1.8 billion for the 2.2km extension while the BMA now has around Bt1.2 million for it, said Aphirat Siwaphornphithak, head of the BMA's Traffic and Transportation Department. The 2.2 section is part of an entire 5.7 kmextension project which will stretch from the Taksin Intersection further up to Phetkasem Road in Bang Wa area. The 5.7 extension is part of the BMA's overall extension of Bangkok Transit System service routes in three directions. The other two routes are the 5.25km extension from the Onnut station to Soi Bearing (Sukhumvit 107) and the 5.1km extension from Mor Chit terminal to Kaset Intersection. The extension of the three routes would cost an estimated Bt27 billion. The BMA would also need to completely own and run the three extended routes. In doing that, it would need approval from the Bangkok City Assembly for a legal amendment to stop receiving a govenrment subsidy to invest in them at the rate 50:50, as well as to abolish an earlier agreement that the routes would be a joint venture with the private sector.
