Air Force team grounded

The in-form Tiew Pai Ngarm team crushed the Royal Thai Air Force side 91-66 to storm into the men's semi-finals of the King's Cup Division A Basketball Tournament at the Siam University Sports Centre yesterday.
On the final day of the second round, Tiew Pai Ngarm, which thrashed the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) team 90-73 on Sunday, continued their good run in the prestigious tournament. Their win over the Air Force team yesterday not only put Tiew Pai Ngarm in the top spot in Group X, but also booked them a place in the semi-finals at the Hua Mark Indoor Stadium, where they will play the Bangkok Bank team. The Air Force will take on Sirichai Oil in the fifth-place play-off. Pruchya Kruathiwa was the top scorer with 22 points for Tiew Pai Ngarm in the match against the Air Force. He is also the tournament's top scorer with 110 points from the previous six matches. The Bangkok Bank team and the Sirichai Oil side both suffered their first losses to the Hi-Tech side in the first round. Yesterday's match between the two teams was to decide the Group Y runners-up and the second team to play in the semi-finals. Tactically and technically underdogs to Bangkok Bank, the inexperienced Sirichai Oil poured everything they had into the match against the much stronger team. After leading 17-12 in the first quarter, the Bankers stretched their lead to 39-23 at half-time before defeating Sirichai Oil 76-41. Bangkok Bank's Boonchai Ritthipany-awong top scored with 13 points.
