Robotics class opens in Chiang Mai's Pantip Plaza

A private company has opened a Bt1-million robotics school in the Pantip Plaza building in Chiang Mai's Muang district.
Ten CT Co director Wimollak Singhanart yesterday said the "ThinkWell" school of robotics was popular, describing it as an outright bid to further develop IT skills in Thailand. The school, on the fourth floor of Pantip Plaza, will offer almost 40 courses, ranging in cost from Bt900 to Bt9,000. Willomak said offering the courses at such prices was a big breakthrough for Thailand, because students would no longer necessarily have to travel overseas to learn the skills. "They no longer have to pay expensive school fees and the travel expenses to study the same courses overseas," she said. The "ThinkWell" school emphasises using cheap materials available in Thailand, she said. To apply for a course, students should have basic computer application skills, although no previous robot-making or program-writing knowledge is required, said Wimollak. She said the route-remembering-robot course was so far the most popular, followed by the talking-robot course. On graduation, students will receive a certificate issued by the Education Ministry and the Computer Association of Thailand under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty the King, said Wimollak. Ten CT Co had previously decided to establish a robotics training centre in Bangkok but decided on Chiang Mai instead, because of the province's IT infrastructure and target customers, Wimollak said.
