Three Thai teens will get the chance to carry the St George's cross flag before the match between England and Paraguay in the World Cup in Germany.
Chabongkot Premchuen, Jirapat Puapipat and Noppanan Khotchapalayuk were the lucky trio who won the Coke Flag Bearer project, which is supported by Coca-Cola, one of the main sponsors of the tournament. The youths will don Thai colours and lead the teams by carrying their flags into the Wald Stadium before millions of viewers on June 10. They will be part of the 292 youth handpicked from around the world as guests of Fifa at the world's biggest football tournament. The award includes five-day package trips to Germany, match tickets, official flag bearer uniforms and certificates from Fifa. The Thais, expressing their delight, said the events of the last few days will be in their memories forever. "I think I got this chance because of my self-confidence. I am not sure whether I will ever get such a chance again in my lifetime," said Chabongkot. "I'm really happy that I'm the only girl who has won this competition and I cannot believe that I will have the chance to meet a superstar like David Beckham," said the 15-year-old girl from Chachoengsao. The 14-year-old Bangkokian Jirapat, a student from Yothinburana School, attributed his success to his parents. "I have to give a big thanks to my parents, who supported me in every way. As for the duty in Germany, I will prepare as well as I can in English. I will impress the participants by highlighting Thai culture," said Jirapat. Meanwhile, Noppanan, who is a fan of Manchester United, is very glad that he made it to Germany for the first time. "I've never been to Germany. It's an awesome opportunity and I will do my best," said Noppanan, who is a student in a sports school. Somporn Suphop,Allitta Tangrungruengkit The Nation
