Minor parties to the rescue

Thai Rak Thai candidates will have opponents in all 14 constituencies set for a third round of voting this Saturday as minor parties managed to field candidates in each constituency.

In the second round of voting last Sunday, Thai Rak Thai candidates ran unopposed in the 14 constituencies in nine southern provinces but they failed to get the minimum 20 per cent of votes required. This caused the Election Commission to call a third round.

Yesterday, the EC registered candidates for the next round of voting and it will spend today and tomorrow considering the candidates' qualifications. The voting will be held in three constituencies in Surat Thani, two each in Chumphon, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Pattani, and one each in Phang Nga, Phatthalung, Phuket, Songkhla and Trang.
