Legal issues to work out

Cabinet secretary-general Bowornsak Uwanno yesterday said the draft Royal Decree to convene the new House of Representatives would not be submitted for royal assent until pertinent legal issues were resolved.
Bowornsak said the Cabinet approved the draft on Tuesday to enable officials to make preparations regarding the new House. Under normal circumstances, the government is obliged to forward the draft to the Royal Palace two weeks ahead of a tentative date for convening the House. He admitted the election outcome was unprecedented, as it appeared that not all 500 House seats would be filled. The government was in consultation on relevant issues with the Council of State, he said. The government has assigned five members to make a decision on the timing of convening the House , he said. They are Deputy Prime Minister Chidchai Vanasatidya; Cabinet members Suriya Jungrungreangkit, Wissanu Krea-ngam and Sudarat Keyuraphan; and secretary-general to the prime minister Prommin Lertsuridej.
