Gen Chavalit said a neutral be appointed interim PM

Chavalit Yongchaiyudh suggested on Thursday a "neutral" individual be appointed interim prime minister to take charge of resolving the political crisis.
The former prime minister admitted, however, that he had no one in mind to lead the country at this juncture."I really have no idea," he said, adding he was still in search of his ideal leader. He was speaking on the political crisis at a forum organised as part of the celebrations for Labour Day on Monday. In his speech, he blamed a lack of genuine democracy as the root cause for the political turmoil. "Despite embracing democracy for almost a century, Thailand has experienced 26 coups and enacted 16 constitutions. Most people say the country has yet to realise fully fledged democracy," he said. He said things went wrong because the powers that be focused on rewriting the constitution rather than instilling the rules of democracy. He said the ideal leader should have six characteristics needed to steer the country out of a parliamentary dictatorship and introduce genuine democracy. The leader should think like a common man and be aware that power and position are merely tools to solve the country's problems. Experience and sound knowledge are also deemed necessary for the job, while caution is required in order to ensure smooth and correct implementation. The leader must strive to promote public participation, remain on guard against runaway power and live in moderation. The Nation
