TRT determined to open new Parliament

The Thai Rak Thai Party (TRT) will continue to push for the opening of a new Parliament if all 500 seats of Parliament are filled following this Saturday's third round of elections.
Pongthep Thepkanjana, deputy leader of TRT, said after a meeting of the party's executive committee yesterday that MP seats in the remaining 14 constituencies in southern Thailand would be filled if there were two candidates for polls on April 29. In the wake of HM's the King's statement on Tuesday about the political impasse, he said: "The party will wait for April 29 election results in which winners will not need to win 20 per cent or more of all eligible votes, since there will be two MP candidates for each of these constituencies. If we get all 500 MPs, we will go ahead and open the new Parliament," he said. On Tuesday, HM the King told the country's judiciary to step in and resolve the ongoing political impasse. The presidents of the Supreme, Administrative and Constitutional courts are due to meet tomorrow to decide on solutions to the deadlock. These top judges will determine whether the April 2 and related elections should be nullified due to several flaws, making the polls undemocratic.
