No more election please : Trang People's Assembly

A local chapter of the anti-Thaksin campaign petitioned on Monday the Election Commission not to organise a third round of voting for 13 Thai Rak Thai candidates who ran unopposed in southern constituencies.

Voters turned out a second time on Sunday, after the April 2 general election, failed to elect parliamentarians in the constituencies.

"Another vote will put undue pressure on southern voters, who have spoken twice already," the Trang People's Assembly said in a statement.

Based on an unofficial count from Sunday's second round of voting, the 13 candidates again failed to muster the support of 20 per cent of eligible voters.

Another round of voting would be futile and a waste of public funds, because outgoing Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra was unjustified in dissolving the House in the first place, the statement said.

Trang election chairman Thammasak Tanwaropas said he would forward the petition to his superior, EC chairman Vasana Puemlarp, for review.
