Highlights of polling in the provinces yesterday.
Northeast Khon Kaen - Less than half the eligible voters were expected to cast their ballot as many people returned to work in Bangkok and other provinces. Maha Sarakham - A candidate allegedly put up posters in prohibited areas. Nong Khai - A candidate made a public speech and gave away T-shirts and money. Nakhon Ratchasima - Some voters were turned away as other people [ghost voters] had already used their names. The provincial election commission received reports of vote buying at Bt50-Bt300 per head in every district. However, people who reported the fraud by phone or mail refused to reveal themselves or act as witnesses. Ubon Ratchathani - Kamnan assistants bought votes for candidates. North Kamphaeng Phet - The provincial election commission said many candidates bought votes for Bt200 each in all areas with the help of government officials. Phichit - A canvasser was arrested with a list of 105 eligible voters and 115 Bt100 bills in his possession. He confessed he was preparing to give the money to people and ask them to vote for candidate No 6. Phitsanulok - A candidate's introduction cards, attached to Bt100 bills, were put in mailboxes and slipped through peoples' doors in Wang Thong district. Central Kanchanaburi - Canvassers for many candidates were reportedly engaged in vote buying.
