Region's rice growers will band together to forge cooperation and stronger ties

Trade officials from five major rice exporting countries in June will attend a meeting in Vietnam to boost agricultural ties under a cooperation programme.
Rachane Potjanasuntorn, director-general of the Foreign Trade Department, said yesterday that the meeting would bolster ties between Thailand, Pakistan, China, Vietnam and India. The meeting is aimed at boosting the exchange of information on price, production and stock management to stabilise prices. Thailand will propose that Thai rice traders manage warehouses in Vietnam. - The Nation.
TOT president agrees to go quietly TOT president Teerawit Charuwat raised a white flag yesterday, saying he would not file suit against the board for its decision to remove him from his post. He said that he would leave for a 10-day vacation today. The board decided that his removal would take effect on May 12. A TOT source said the board would appoint Chamras Tantrisukorn, the current senior executive, as acting president. - The Nation.
Lender and debtor under scrutinyThe Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) warned investors to closely monitor disclosures of Eastern Wire (EWC) and Siam General Factoring (SGF). The SEC found that SGF borrowed money from EWC, then lent that cash to customers connected to the interested parties. Later, EWC and SGF submitted more information about the transaction and a list of debtors to the SEC but the companies have yet to submit details to the SET. - The Nation.
